Prepare your home for photography

Make the space easy to see and the preparation easy to manage.

Work room by room

Create a short checklist for each room. Clear everyday clutter, straighten textiles, and make pathways easy to follow. Keep the home’s actual features visible.

Think about light

Check lamps and fixtures and discuss timing with the photographer. Open or adjust window coverings as appropriate for the planned photographs.

Protect your privacy

Put away mail, family photographs, account information, and identifying documents. Check mirrors and reflective surfaces for anything you do not want visible.

Plan the day

Confirm access, timing, pets, and any areas that need special attention. Leave space for the photographer to work and keep the preparation list manageable.

Keep the presentation accurate

Photographs should help people understand the property. Discuss edits and any virtual staging clearly so the marketing does not misrepresent the home.
